We boycotted all events today and stayed in our pajamas all day doing fun stuff.
The slide show explains most of it but I have to add a few details.
First of all Mia was so giddy I could have slapped her.
I think all I said today was "Caaaallllmmm Doooowwwnn!"
She's my partner in crime on the "desecration" as Levi puts it. He hates the term "decoration" in and of itself.
We started off by carving the pumpkin which went well, mostly. Jules was simply disgusted at the sight of the pumpkin guts. She was not interested in it at all. Then, for some reason (again, her two-ness kicking in) she got mad at me for carving the nose. I carved the eyes and she was laughing and all was well. Then I started on the nose and it was just over.
She got so upset that she was almost hyperventilating. I asked her what was wrong thinking she must be near death and all she said was "NO CUT NOSE!" Well, missy, get over it. She is so very dramatic it's ridiculous.
I told her she had to quit crying or she was going to get a spanking. And do you know what she said?
"GO NAP"
She was so mad at me that she went to bed. On her own. Without being asked. She often asks to be left alone when she is mad. Funny that a two year old can ask that but she does. She says, "Mommy, yeave me 'yone. Pees." She's so polite. Of course, then she gets in trouble but it is still funny.
So, Mia and I continued the festivities while she sulked in her bed soon drifting off into two year old heaven.....sleep.
We first toasted the pumpkin seeds and I've found that when trying to fish the seeds out of the gew you should actually fish the gew out of the seeds. It's easier. Then you have a bowl full of seeds and the gew is in the trash.
DON'T make the mistake of taking all the stringy gew off the seeds and DON'T rinse the seeds. It adds flavor. It isn't necessary and doesn't make them any better. Just more work for you. Only take off the majority of the big chunks.
Pre-heat oven to 300. Spray a cookie pan or swipe pan with olive oil. Spread out the seeds and drizzle with olive oil, course salt, pepper, and garlic salt. Stir. Spread out on pan again. Cook for 10 minutes. Stir. Cook 10 more minutes. I usually check them after 5 minutes the second time b/c my oven is wacky. Cook them according to your liking. Mia LOVES these.
Then we did spider webs. Uggh. I suck at that. It's really hard to do for me for some reason and I'm pretty crafty and all but I guess that's my handicap. Mia just threw big hunks of it all over the place.
I just got the glitter "Boo" and Mia slept with it. She is the weirdest little thing. She sleeps with things that she says are special. This would be why I have to clean out her bed every week b/c she, not kidding, has enough junk in her bed to fill a trash bag after just one week.
Jules is the EXACT opposite. She gets hacked if one single thing is in her bed and will hurl it across the room at bedtime.
At the end of the day we watched our Alvin and the Chipmunks Halloween movie on the couch and then they went to bed.
I love days like this. Nothing to do but have fun.

What a great day!
Next time I need a break I am going to come be a Swinney kid.
:)
Kaylyn isn't into the guts of pumpkins either! I think she might have dry heaved last year when we carved ours.
But, I'm totally with you on eating the seeds and October being my favorite month. I love them both! However, this October is already letting me down with this insane heat!
Wow, that sounds like such a great day! Fun stuff!
I have to say that I can totally relate to Mia having so much crap in her bed. Whenever I change my sheets it's like- book, kleenex, magazine, another book, two more knleenexes, glasses....you get the picture. Once I slept with a flashlight that had those fiber-optic string thingys coming out from it- needless to say, the next morning my bed was covered in the little plastic string thingys and the flashlight wasn't so special anymore.
