Easy Shabby Chic Cross Canvas

Before: Just plain old Joint compound and a plain Jane cheap canvas.

***Become a follower and be automatically entered in my next give-away***

This is a collage on canvas. The outline of the cross is a built up texture rising at least 1/2 inch off of the canvas using *joint compound, painted, and then I used black slick paint to outline it for extra detail. There is subtle texture (joint compound) on the background that I applied with a palette knife. I used scrap book paper and mod-podge for the inside of the cross and the edges of the canvas. I used plain old acrylic paint and hit it a couple times with Mod-podge to seal.It is very shabby chic and I would leave it right there on my fireplace IF it wasn't for one problem. My husband. He isn't so much shabby chic as he is just plain shabby. But I still wanted to show it off.

Click HERE for another mod-podge canvas great for a kids bedroom you will seriously flip over...so easy and you will get fancy-pants boutique results.

* If you go for the joint compound REMEMBER it needs to dry at least 8 hours. But it is so worth the wait. I have tried caulking but I do not like it as much as joint compound.

FYI: If you are viewing this for the first time, I had a give away so that's why the comments are people telling me they want it! So, don't be hasty! Become a follower for a chance to win great things like this Easy Shabby Chic Cross Canvas. :) BUT this is no longer a give-away.

Connie, I ADORE THIS PICTURE! I mean I LOVE THIS PICTURE! I am painting and redecorating a room in my house to be used for "me time" and this would be perfect for that room. I would be honored for you to choose me, however, I will choose to be a good sport if you chose Danael.... I guess I would be happy for him (although Danael, I will sneak in your house when you are sleeping and dye your hair pink)! :)

First of all I must say that I really enjoy reading your blog. It always puts a good smile on my face. This picture is so neat. Very unique. I would love to win it. You see, I've got to find Lori, my sister...Lori Baylor that is, a Christmas gift. What do I get her? Good question. So, seeing this I thought "Wow, that would make a great gift for her. She would love to have someting made from Connie." So, anyways...that's why I think it would be very neat to win it.

I looooooooooooooooooooove joint compound - another suggestion is to get the stuff that is pink and turns white as it dries....I like the cross...

Connie said...

Thanks so much everyone! I will totally be stopping by a vision to remember on Saturdays...thanks for the heads up.

AND I saw that pink stuff...that would be so much easier to see when applying on a white canvas..thanks for the tip!

This is great. I like a more whimsical and colorful approach to a religious icon. Who said Christianity had to be stoggy. The black and white on the sides is the perfect finishing touch.
