If I could give any advice to potential home buyers with children: Make sure you have a guest bathroom that the children will NEVER EVER use. Why? Oh, caked on toothpaste ALL over the bathroom, water 1-2 inches deep flooding the floor after each and every bath, mirror splatter painted with toothpaste spit, panties used and new hanging from the light fixtures, toys in places I never dreamed they could be, and let's not forget the occasional surprise....
...like, when your children never flush and a guest comes over. That's the best ever. Levi has spanked them for this and still just today I walked in there and what's that I see? I'm sure you get the picture.
....and like, when I empty the dirty clothes hamper and am confused by an overwhelming smell of urine...oh, there's a used pull-up in the very very bottom....that's what that smell is! Thanks Jules!
Oh, and if you are re-counting her age, yes, she's 4. Yes, she's a bed wetter. And, yes, she might be in pull-ups until she's 15.
Not complaining...just sayin'....
I know, you're thinking I have a lot more problems than not having an exclusively-guest guest bathroom by now, but let's stay on the topic, o.k.
And that topic is: What to do with the entryway and guest/kids bathroom?
Entryway as it looks right now:
Let's just say this isn't my style. At all. So, the question is, what do I do? I am looking through magazines to get ideas b/c I really like to copy other people's ideas. It's what I do best. Not sure I'm in love with that chair rail either. I want to display some family photos there and also have some function to it for guests..purses, coats, etc. I do have a coat closet but I think we will mainly use it for our own.
And the bathroom:
This is the new shower curtain I chose for the girls. I don' t want the bathroom to turn into a neon fest of colors. The rest should subtly tie into the shower curtain.
Checkout another lovely border!
So, any fabulous ideas swirling through your head right now? If not, do you know of a great magazine or website to get ideas? We like clean, and modern-ish. Don't forget, Levi is in the architecture business so unfortunately his opinion has to matter.

it is unfortunate that his opinion has to matter...I will be on the look out for some cool ideas :)
I loath wallpaper and wish I have quick fix idea for you. I would like to comprise a series of V8 style commercials where I get to whack people in the back of the head as they are applying paper and borders. Maybe, if you are into the rustic New Mexico scene, you could apply some sort of stucco or texture to the walls?
Do you ever look on HGTV.com at the Rate My Space rooms? We've found some good ideas there. We probably won't actually do any of them until all our kids start kindergarten, but we still like to look:)
Okay, here's my semi-un-professional opinion. Roll with me on this one.
Hallway. I could live without the chair-rail BUT it may be too much of a pain to take down. Since you have so many great pictures of your family, I would create a little art gallery of that wall in the hallway. If you get rid of the chair rail i would paint the whole wall a feature color, something bold that goes with your other colors. I would frame pictures in simple black or dark brown frames and hang them on the wall and change out the light fixture to something that is adjustable and point it at the photos like a gallery. If you keep the chair-rail i would paint the trim and everything below it black (go with me) and paint the top part a lighter color like gray or lt blue, teal, orange, etc. then do the same thing with art in black frames. There's a paint that is really think and creates a light texture when you roll it on, you could try that over the wallcovering so you don't have to remove the wallcovering.
Bathroom:
I think the walls would look good in a light gray. Call me crazy (again) but i would paint the cabinetry black and change the knobs. Then you can accent with acessories in the colors of the shower curtain (which i LOVE).
Okay, just some quck thoughts. I would love to come over and talk it through with you. I love design. hahahahahaha... I guess i better!!!
I love the VERY last sentence. That's wonderful! I would need to come look and let it soak in to help. For the bathroom... what if you get your favorite color strip... Use that as the accent color... with towels.. or rugs or border. I did something really cool in Randy's bathroom when he had that house with his sister. I will explain later but that might be a good idea that would be clean and maybe Levi would like it but it would still be fun for the girls. Now I feel like I should call you but I know you are out shopping so call me after you read this and I will explain.
My advice...call Catherine.
I know! Wall-paper sucks! We actually are considering venetian plaster but still think we have to remove the darn stuff. :(
Thanks Catherine..I do like your ideas a lot. I'll ponder the ideas but when it comes to color pickin' I may need some help. So far, two strikes in this house.
O.k., Laci..we'll talk later.
And Kathy! UM, you are a designer TOO. I do not accept that buck passing business!
LOL....Ok...Ok...busted! How about we plan a pot-luck dinner kind of thing over at your house so Catherine and I can consult in person? It would be fun!
