Sally...it's been a while.....

Does Gloria Bunker come to mind?  Pebbles and Bam-Bam?  Save the Children? I remember the commercials she did for some organization promising to help kids wondering if it were real.  Wondering if they were all crooks and taking the money rather than giving it to the children in need.  Or better yet the government garnishing most of it leaving little to actually put towards helping the kids.  Was it all a big scam?

I don't remember being totally bothered by what I saw.  It felt so far away.  Like it just didn't apply. Would the picture being sent really be the child I was helping?  Or was it the same picture sent to 100 different families?

Now I know it wasn't but at the time that's what went through my head.  And, being that it was only through the television and snail mailed letters...it was kind of hard to really touch it, it that makes sense.

Enter the technology BOOM.

Technology is a horrible beautiful thing.  At times I hate it and then at times I stand in awe of it.  One thing I love about technology is that it can take far away, distant, unrelatable things and put them right in your living room.  It can make you face things that distance allows you to hide from.  Things like malnutrition.

The thing we've been hearing and seeing on television since we were wearing footie pajamas.  It's still here.  It's so bad.

I don't have the time or energy to ask permission to use photos from these blogs so I'm going to have to post links.  The Livesay's have been missionaries in Haiti for several years.  If missionary makes you think boring...think again.  They were there for the earthquake and are anxiously anticipating their return in December-ish.  I love their blog.  It is through their blog that I learned about the Medika Mamba program.  Medika Mamba is a product made specifically to nurse malnourished children back to health in a matter of weeks.  Real Hope for Haiti  is a way to see first hand just how amazing this stuff is.  They show you the faces.  The faces of the children they take care of for weeks....months...to get them better.  To see a four week progression of 4 courageous little girls click here.

I recently read their (the Livesay's) post about a little boy named Renald.  I hope you go read it.  I hope you watch the video of the Livesay's daughter talking about there time spent caring for him.  As a mom, you can only hope to guide your children in such a way that they grasp the most important things in life...I think the Livesay's are doing just that.

I don't want my girls to miss the point.  I want people to see Jesus in them not in what they can or cannot do.  Not in how they dress.  Not in what sport or club they are in.  And that is a frightening thing to be responsible for.

I do know one thing.  I see Jesus in the Haiti Rescue Center and those that work there.  And to think I can directly be apart of something so great by giving money or sending supplies.  I can see where my money is going and how it is being used.  Awesome.

Thanks for listening.

This sounds like an excellent way to give and learn as a family. You are making wonder decisions in outreach for your girls. I love seeing parents like you in action. You're raising up a new generation who will love God and love people!
